Timbales

Timbales are shallow, single-headed metal drums of Cuban origin, traditionally played in pairs mounted on a stand with various accessories including cowbells, woodblocks, and cymbals. These high-pitched percussion instruments feature chrome-plated or brass shells with synthetic or natural drumheads, producing bright, cutting tones with excellent projection and crisp attack. Essential in Latin music genres including salsa, mambo, Latin jazz, and timba, timbales provide rhythmic drive through complex patterns, rim shots, and cascara rhythms. Modern timbale setups often include additional percussion accessories and are available in various sizes, typically ranging from 13" to 15" diameters for optimal tonal balance.
