In classic cooking tradition, the big brother of the Studiotone 20 Combo sounds much bigger and has more features than you would expect from its small appearance. Starting with four Class A EL84 power amplifier tubes, a redesigned speaker and cabinet, three foot-switchable channels and two powerful voicing switches, the Koch Studiotone XL sound is reminiscent of the British tube amplifiers of the 60s. The three channels (Clean, Overdrive & Overdrive+, all with their own volume control) take you from round, warm tones to rich EL84 overdrive & compression. The 2-way "Mid Shift" switch allows you to raise the mid-range frequencies by 800 Hz and the 3-way "Bright" switch allows you to lower or amplify the high frequencies to fine-tune the upper end. However, some of the big surprises are left for the rear, and a quick inspection reveals a serial effects loop, a recording output with microphone placement and cabinet-style simulators, two line outputs (one unfiltered and one low level) and a "headphone out" jack. 4, 8, and 16 ohm speaker outputs allow for any combination of speakers, and the built-in Power Soak and speaker on/off switch allow the amplifier to play while the speaker is off for recording or headphones.
